One day Jesus sat on a grassy hillside and talked to thousands of people. As He looked at them He felt pity. He saw into their fretful minds and said:
Stop being perpetually uneasy about your life, what you shall eat or what you shall drink; or about your body, what you shall put on. Is not life greater than food, and the body more excellent than clothing? (Matt. 6:25)
To illustrate his message, Jesus pointed to a flock of birds. “Notice how carefree they are,” he said. ” They don’t know how to work, but the Father feeds them one day at a time and has love for each one.”
God intended a worry-free life for us. Not a naïve, irresponsible life, but one where we trust Him completely.
He is with us, giving us the strength we need to cope with life’s challenges. Not a year’s worth of strength or even a month’s worth. He gives one day’s worth of strength, every day.
Our Heavenly Father is the God of today. Leave your tomorrows in His hands. Lay your head on your pillow tonight and rest like a baby. When you wake, before you get out of bed, place the hours ahead in His care.
Jesus ended his talk that day with these words:
Give your entire attention to what God is doing right now, and don’t get worked up about what may or may not happen tomorrow. God will help you deal with whatever hard things come up when the time comes.
We don’t have the equipment to live a worrying life. We’re made to live a trusting-God life.
Making it Personal: Father, I deliberately give the hours of my day to you. Help me to live the care-free life you planned for me. I trust you for the strength I need today.
